There is significant interest from major oil and gas companies in the Marcellus Shale formation, particularly Northeastern Pennsylvania. Gas companies have known, since at least the 1960's that the Marcellus contains natural gas. However, the shale's development has been limited because of the difficulty of producing significant quantities of natural gas from tight formations.
Recent developments in horizontal well drilling and completion technologies have led to a renewed interest in the Marcellus. As a result, many landowners are being approached by companies offering significant upfront bonuses and royalties for the right to drill on their land. These offers come in the form of a lease which can be difficult to understand for landowners who lack oil and gas experience.
Homeland Energy Ventures has developed a significant interest in the Marcellus Shale play. Together with an industry partner, Homeland has generated contractual engagements with landowners to represent the their best interests during the leasing process. Since Northeastern Pennsylvania is not an area where oil and gas well drilling has historically occurred many landowners are trying to understand new and complex mineral leasing, land rights and business issues. Homeland services provide legal, technical and business expertise to assist landowners in making the best choices for their particular situation.
